A neutral sodium chloride hot spring drawn from the Himekawa, on basement level one. When the skiing is done, the lift takes you straight down. Free for all house guests.
For the skin
Rich in sodium, salt and minerals. The water leaves a fine coating on the skin that works much like a moisturiser.
For warmth
Known locally as “the hot water”. By improving circulation it is said to ease aching muscles and joints, stiffness and poor circulation.
For the mind
The change of air, away from daily life. A kind of rest particular to Hakuba, surrounded by mountains.
Straight from the snow
Basement level one. Leave your skis in the first-floor locker and go straight to the water.

Open-air bath, lying bath, jar bath and indoor bath, plus a sauna and cold bath.
Open-air bath
The one we would choose. Snow in winter; from spring to autumn, a sky full of stars.
Sauna
A dry sauna in the men's bath. Work up a sweat, then step into the cold plunge.
Cold plunge
Groundwater drawn from 300 m below. To cool down after the sauna.
Lying bath
Lie back in shallow water and let everything go. Good for circulation, too.
Jar bath
A ceramic tub for one. Deep enough that the water closes over you.

Open-air and indoor baths, and a barrel sauna with self-löyly.
Open-air bath
Wind in the trees and water falling. A place where you lose track of the hour.
Barrel sauna
Self-löyly, out in the open air, so you can step straight into the cold.
Indoor bath
A generous tub of Hakuba Himekawa water. In both the men's and women's baths.
Washing area
Shampoo, conditioner and body soap, plus lotion and milk.
The lying bath, jar bath, sauna and cold bath are in the men's bath only; the barrel sauna is in the women's bath only. Indoor and open-air baths are in both.
